the urban hive
The driving concept is to bridge the O-Bahn road which disconnects Rymill Park. The bridge’s arch design frees the space below from columns which lightens the appearance of the structure. A deep soil system will be incorporated to allow for landscaping to cover the bridge to provide the green link to the site. Further landscaping will be incorporated into the forecourt between the bridges to soften the transition between hardscape and ecology. Secondary to the bridge is an underground building inspired by the forms and structure of a bee hive. The design incorporates stair/escalator access from the forecourt along with a central lift to collapse the program and sequence the spaces. The building will accommodate a mixed use of programs to provide a variety of options for people to use before/after work. ‘Linking infrastructure with recreation and daily life in a simple, iconic place at the city edge. Based on the area’s movement patterns and terrain, the design creates a landscape that makes it simple and intuitive for the users to find their way and move around in the station.’ |
